The 3 minutes 25 seconds Dangal trailer starts with Mahavir Phogat announcing “Medalists per pe nahi ugte, unhe banana padhta hai… Pyar se, mehnat se, lagan se”. The next moment, the trailer reveals that Mahavir had a dream to win a gold medal for India, but he failed and he dreams that his son will make his dream fulfilled. Sadness struck Mahavir when he had a baby girl instead of a boy, and he is like turning down his dream of winning a gold medal, as Mahavir thinks only a boy can do this, and not a girl.

Then comes the turning point in the Dangal trailer, when Mahavir comes to know that his daughters Geeta and Babita are not only physically strong but stronger and more fit than his son for wrestling. Now Mahavir goes on training both his daughters for Olympic. The wrestling moves both girls take or the way they announce, “pehelwani bahut ho gayi, abdangal ka time hai,” wants you to stand up and applaud. And then they are seen wresting for several sports events. Last minutes of the Dangal trailer shows younger Mahavir Phogat wrestling and it gives a treat to watch Aamir Khan flaunting his physique, amidst the magical voice of Daler Mehndi humming in the background. Dangal official trailer ends with a conversation between Mahavir Phogat and his wife, where the wife says “Palwani to sirf chhore hi karein!” and Aamir Khan as Mahavir gives a fitting reply to this, announcing “Mhari Chhoria Chhoro se kum hai ke?”

While watching the trailer of Aamir Khan’s Dangal, you may feel that there are so many similar scenes as were in Salman Khan’s latest Blockbuster ‘Sultan’, and there’s nothing wrong in it, as both movies ‘Dangal’ and ‘Sultan’ are based on wrestling. The best thing about Dangal trailer that will obviously make people fall in love with the trailer is that it challenges the general gender stereotypes, where in our society girls are believed to be weak and less fit to strive as compared with boys.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat who was born in a small village in Haryana, Mahavir trained his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat and helped establish them as world-class wrestlers. He broke conventions and made his daughters wrestle boys in an akhaada. For this, he had to face objections of his fellow villagers but he refused to budge. Geeta Phogat went on to win gold in 2010 Commonwealth Games while Babita won a gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Geeta also qualified for the Olympics, first Indian female wrestler to do so. Mahavir has coached many top Indian wrestlers and has been nominated for the Dronacharya Award.

In the ‘Dangal’ movie, Mahavir Phogat’s character will be essayed by Aamir Khan, while Sakshi Tanwar will play Mahavir Phogat’s wife. And Mahavir Singh’s lion hearted daughters will be played by Zaira Wasim as child Geeta Phogat and Suhani Bhatnagar as child Babita Kumari.

Produced by UTV, and directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal movie will release on the date – 23 December, 2016 over the Christmas week.
