Varun Dhawan’s Judwaa 2 will recreate Salman Khan’s Judwaa magic?

Judwaa 2 trailer: Varun Dhawan opens up about comparison with Salman Khan

1997 released laughter riot ‘Judwaa’ was not just a film but more than it, a memory lane for the 90s kids. Now when Varun Dhawan is stepping into Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s shoes for the sequel, a sign of pressure is bound to linger on the former’s forehead. The pressure of offering something new and at the same time recreating the magic of two iconic characters of Raja and Prem on screen is quite usual. Indeed it is not easy to challenge and recreate the something that has been loved over decades. An immediate comparison is drawn with the original and same goes with Varun Dhawan.

Judwaa 2 is a remake, not a sequel: Here’s why

The trailer was released on Monday and promises Judwaa 2 to turn out to be as much laughter riot as the original one. But question is will Varun be able to spill the same magic of Salman as Raja and Prem when these two are the most loved twin characters in Bollywood? The answer is probably ‘no’. It is never a cup of tea to match the charismatic level of Salman Khan’s screen presence.

Again, from the trailer Judwaa 2 is looking more a remake of Judwaa rather than a sequel. A number of scenes from the original is directly lifted and director David Dhawan added that 8-9 scenes from Salman’s Judwaa is retained. Two chartbuster songs “Oonchi Hai Building” and “Tan Tana Tan Tan Tan Tara” are recreated and it is already evident how the originality is ruined. Besides these, the story is almost same to Judwaa and seems like Jackie Chan’s ‘Twin Dragons’ is remade once again. Well, time will tell everything better.

“Salman Khan has made Raja and Prem iconic”, says Varun Dhawan

Talking about comparisons with Salman, Varun at the trailer launch event said, “Pressure and expectations will be there. I am happy there are expectations and if there was no expectation then that would have been a problem.” The’ Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ actor said Judwaa 2 would not have been possible without Salman Khan as the superstar has made the two characters – Raja and Prem — iconic. “He is and he will remain the original Raja and Prem.”
