Toilet Ek Prem Katha’s first day collection in top 5: Salman Khan’s Tubelight still remains the biggest opener of 2017

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha First Day Occupancy, Box Office Collections Report

Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar’s social satire ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ released today across nearly 3000 domestic screens and 900 screens in the overseas. It is quite disheartening to state that the film had a slow start in the beginning. Let’s discuss how Toilet: Ek Prem Katha performed on the first day, putting two other films – Salman Khan starrer ‘Tubelight’ and Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ together.

Opening Day Occupancy and Collections Comparison: Tubelight Vs Jab Harry Met Sejal Vs Toilet: Ek Prem Katha

A quick comparison:

Total footfalls in first 30 shows

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha – 3122

Jab Harry Met Sejal – 3793

Tubelight – 4285

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha: The early morning shows had a slow start, registering only 20% occupancy. However, growth was visible in the noon and the afternoon shows and the occupancy went to 50%. While, the evening and night shows witnessed huge jump registering around 70% occupancy and 90% in place to place.

Jab Harry Met Sejal: The Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer romantic drama opened with low occupancy throughout the country. In some places, shows had to be even cancelled or delayed for an hour or so due to the lack of audiences. Noon shows too witnessed no such growth and the occupancy remained 37.5% for 3200 screens which is lower than Raees. Evening and night shows failed to pick up the much needed jump and the film could not bagged a more than 15.25 Crore on its first day.

Tubelight: The emotional drama opened 37.5% (Later, Jab Harry Met Sejal too witnessed the same response) on average across India in the morning shows. The opening was better in the North as in Delhi and Punjab the collections were not really affected by pre Eid while the morning figures were good to decent elsewhere. Being a regular day and pre Eid affected the collection but picked up well by the afternoon and evening shows in Delhi, Punjab, Chennai. By the evening shows, the occupancy went to 60-80%. By all of these, Tubelight made up to 21.15 Crore on the first Friday.

Well, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’s first day business will be similar to or less than Akshay Kumar’s last release ‘Jolly LLB 2’ (12.06 Crore) and the film is heading towards 11-13 Crore nett figure mostly as a result of poor daytime shows.
